Updated Training Requirements for Security Industry

Starting 1 January 2024, there will be important changes to the security training requirements affecting:

• • Existing Security Officers and New Security Officers

• • Existing Senior Security Officers and those wishing to become Senior Security Officers.

• • PLRD Licence Renewal

For Existing & New Security Officers

Existing Security Officers must complete "Operate Basic Security Equipment" by 31 December 2025 to remain deployable. As of 1 January 2024, New Security Officers will still be required to complete three basic licensing units (BLU).

For Senior Security Officers (SSO)

Existing Senior Security Officers will need to complete "Security Surveillance Management (Perform Remote Surveillance Function)" by 31 December 2025 to retain their rank. "Perform Remote Surveillance Function" is a 3-day course covering topics like operating remote security surveillance equipment (e.g., CCTVs) and responding to security incidents detected remotely.

For Progressing to Senior Security Officer (SSO)

Security Officers aiming to become SSOs must complete the following two modules:

• • PWM-Security: Security Surveillance Management (Perform Remote Surveillance Function)

• • PWM-Security: Deterrence (Manage Disorderly Conduct and Threatening Behaviour)

The year-in-grade requirement of 6 months as a Security Officer remains unchanged.

PLRD Licence Renewal

Effective from 1 Jan 2024, all existing security licence holders must complete an online refresher quiz to be eligible for licence renewal. Officers will receive a notice from the Singapore Police Force 3 months before their licence expiry. The renewal notice will include a QR code to access the refresher quiz and training package. The refresher quiz fee is $20. Officers have unlimited attempts to pass the quiz, and it is recommended to complete it within 3 months of the renewal notice.
