A Security Officer licence is required if you are employed to perform any of the following functions:
- a. Patrolling or guarding another person’s property (including cash in transit) by physical means (which may involve the use of patrol dogs) or by electronic means;
- b. Keeping the property (including cash in transit) of another person under surveillance, including for the purpose of preventing theft thereof;
- c. Acting as a bodyguard or bouncer;
- d. Performing any function of screening individuals, as part of your regular duties, seeking entry into any public place or other premises;
- e. Regulating traffic under the Road Traffic Act 1961.
This process will take about 14 working days. You will be notified of the result via SMS/Email/Letter.
If you are an Ex-Regular or NSF, do check with the Police Licensing & Regulatory Department (PLRD) if you are exempted from the basic licensing units.

To qualify for the Security Officer License, you are required to complete the following basic security courses:
- PGPS & OBSE – Guard and Patrol, Access Control Management
(Provide Guard and Patrol Services and Operate Basic Security Equipment) - HSIS – Incident Response
(Handle Security Incidents and Services) - RTT – Threat Observation
(Recognise Terrorist Threats)
These courses are designed to equip you with the essential skills needed in the security industry.
Sign up hereJust like every citizen has their IC for identification, security officers need their own Security Pass. The final step in becoming a licensed security officer is to create your Security Officer Pass.
Once 14 days have passed after your final assessment, you can proceed to create your Security Pass at the Union of Security Employees (USE).

After creating your Security Pass, you will receive your security ID card with a validity of 5 years. This marks the completion of your journey as a licensed security officer, ready to begin your career in the security industry!
